Ye Old Mason Jar with Paper Funnel Idea
- Put a small amount (1/2 inch or so) of apple cider vinegar in a small jar
- Make a cone or funnel with some paper and tape it inside the jar (the tape goes on the outside of the jar), making sure the bottom of the cone doesn’t touch the liquid in the jar.
Gnats or fruit flies will enter the cone and go down into the bottle. They cannot figure out how to get out of the jar and eventually, they fall into the apple cider vinegar.
Side note: While we were away, roses from Mother’s Day were left out and attracted or grew (whichever?) about 20 gnats. A pineapple was also left out. .so there were at least 20 gnats. We caught them all with this handy trap. The hole in the funnel should be fairly small and if you don’t catch any or you stop catching them try refreshing the apple cider again by pouring out the old and build a new trap.
Ye Super Easy Shallow Dish and Plastic Wrap Idea (Love this one!)
I’ve also had success with about an inch of any of those liquids in a tall, thin jar, like a G.T.’s kombucha jar, always covered with saran wrap.
Liquid works best in my estimation because the gnats drown instead of flying around inside the jar.
Happy gnat catching!
