Ok – so we love pasta sauce, AKA as spaghetti sauce. We always make it PARTIALLY from scratch. The first step is a hot skillet with butter or olive oil or coconut oil. Add in freshly pressed or chopped garlic and finely chopped onions. Onions and garlic ALWAYS make our house smell delicious! Then pull out Italian spices. ..we use an Italian Spice Blend, but when we don’t have that, we just use oregano and basil. Fresh herbs would be great here, too. Be generous with your herbs. . .it MAKES the sauce.
After the onions are translucent, we add in any brand of organic spaghetti sauce. If you add in Italian spices and extra garlic and onions, your sauce will be yummy every time. If we only have canned or diced tomatoes on hand, we will blend those in a blender and then add them to our onions and garlic and spices mix. If you like HOT, try adding in some cayenne pepper.
Let your mixture simmer for at least 30 minutes.
We enjoy this over spaghetti squash, wheat noodles, spelt noodles or as a pizza sauce base. For a richer sauce, add in some freshly grated parmesan cheese.
