Friends, root beer floats are such a treat! Making your own is easy! You can select ingredients that are yummy and not too hard on your blood sugar. Slow down, cool down and enjoy this natural variety!
First, select a root beer that is made with natural cane sugar OR one that is sweetened with stevia. (stevia is a natural, plant based sweetener and is a good sub for artificial sweeteners) Virgil’s has a regular cane sugar product and a “diet” product sweetened with stevia.
Next, select an ice cream made with only real cream, sugar and milk. . .no corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup or other unnatural ingredients. You could also try ice creams made with coconut milk or other milk alternatives. What you should see on the label is a short, easy to read list of ingredients.
Finally, select a great little cup that has “love is spoken here” printed on the front. (these were found at a local dollar store) Add in 1 or 2 scoops of ice cream (keep child sizes small) and cover with cool root beer. If you are serving a crowd you might fill all the cups with ice cream and keep them in the freezer on a serving tray. When you are ready for dessert, pull out the prepared ice cream, pour root beer and enjoy!
